The Wrath Of God  -  Can the wrath of God be directed toward the sons of God?

Romans 1:18

ECB 18 IRREVERENCE AND INJUSTICE
For the wrath of Elohim is unveiled from the heavens against all irreverence and injustice of humanity who hold the truth in injustice;

The apostle Paul writes seventeen verses of assurance and love and gospel grace to the ones living in Rome before mentioning the wrath. Humanity is the target of God's wrath here. Humanity is from the Greek word anthropos which is often a covenant term for God's people. We are usually taught that God disciplines his children and that His wrath is reserved for the unbelievers. Can the wrath of God be directed toward the sons of God?

Colossians 3:4-6

ECB 4 Whenever the Messiah, our life, manifests, then you also manifest with him in glory.

STRIPPING THE OLD HUMANITY

5 So deaden your members on the earth: whoredom, impurity, passion, evil panting, and avarice - which is idolatry: 6 through which the wrath of Elohim comes on the sons of distrust:

The wrath of God is directed toward the sons in Colossians 3:6. I have never heard that from any pulpit. Could it have something to do with covenant transition? The sons who trusted God were moving into the new covenant and the sons of distrust were about to perish. Satan himself, who was ruling the kingdom of Rome, was one of the sons of distrust. He tried to usurp the true Son rather than trust Him. Being in God's family, he knew the truth and was therefore very accountable.

It was a fallen son of God (an angel) who caused the human son (Adam) to fall and then the fallen sons (angels) cohabitated with Adam's descendents to bring the local flood judgment on God's human and elohim/human children.

It was the firstborn nation of God that was destroyed in AD 70; not all the people on the whole planet. The second born or born again Jewish nation is the church, which will never be destroyed. The church is where we get the idea that God's discipline is for His children and His wrath is for the unbelievers. The unbelieving sons rejected their messiah and did not escape the wrath. The believing sons took sanctuary in the church.

John 3:36 (John witnessed to Jerusalem before they were destroyed)

ECB 36 He who trusts in the Son has eternal life: and he who distrusts the Son sees not life; but the wrath of Elohim abides on him.

Philippians 3:2-3

ALT 2 Be watching out for [or, Beware of] the dogs! Be watching out for the evil laborers! Be watching out for the mutilation [or, false circumcision]! 3 For we are the [true] circumcision, the [ones] sacredly serving in [or, by] the Spirit of God and boasting in Christ Jesus and not having placed trust [or, having confidence] in flesh,

Hosea 11:1

LITV 1 When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and I called My son out of Egypt.

We are in a better covenant now and the transition is over. His new covenant people have been revealed as the only children of God now. All the bad angels of the nations were destroyed and the true Son rules the good angels and all of humanity with His perfectly human soul. So in the new covenant we do avoid the wrath of God that leads to destruction. Our mediator is a merciful high preist who took on humanity in Jerusalem and conquered it and raised it into a better covenant.

Woe to the sons of distrust who remained in AD 70 old covenant Israel !

Matthew 11:20-22

LITV 20 Then He began to reproach the cities in which most of His powerful acts had occurred, for they did not repent. 21 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the powerful acts which have taken place in you had happened in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, It shall be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon in Judgment Day than for you.

AD 70 was the end for the temple of the gospel rejecters but judgement actually began with the believers. A Jewish man named Peter was writing from 'Babylon' when he addresses the elect scattered ones (believing sons). He tells them to consider their fiery trial as part of the sufferrings of Christ designed to prepare them for the consummation that "has-neared". Some say that means Peter was writing from Rome and some say Jerusalem. There were believing and unbelieving sons scattered throughout the Roman Empire, but Jerusalem with it's temple typically represented the old covenant that was about to be destroyed. Rome was also part of the about-to-be transition. It is said that Nero started the city of Rome on fire and blamed the Christians. That started a fiery trial of even more persecution for the believers. Rome was the 4th kingdom prophecied by Daniel. It was also being ruled by an unbelieving son (satan) who was about to be crushed. Both the 4th kingdom and the old covenant were about to be handed over to the true Son.

Revelation 11:8  (The city of Jerusalem is associated with the unfaithful)

LITV 8 And their bodies will be on the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom, and Egypt, where our Lord was crucified.

Revelation 18:4

LITV 4 And I heard another voice out of Heaven saying, My people, come out of her, that you may not share in her sins, and that you may not receive of her plagues;

Revelation 18:24 (Babylon)

LITV 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all the ones having been slain on the earth.

Luke 11:50-52 (The same Jesus who said this in Jerusalem later relayed the book of Revelation)

ECB 50 that the blood of all the prophets, poured from the foundation of the cosmos, is required of this generation 51 - from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechar Yah - who destructed between the sacrifice altar and the house: yes, I word to you, It is required of this generation. 52 Woe to you, torahists! For you take the key of knowledge: and you yourselves enter not; and them entering, you forbid.

1 Peter 4:17  (Judgement began in order to prepare rather than destroy the believing sons)

LITV 17 Because the time has come to begin the judgment from the house of God; and if firstly from us, what will be the end of the ones disobeying the gospel of God?

Promises to Abraham are fulfilled in the gospel through the Son of promise

Hebrews 6:9-14 (Written to persecuted Jews outside of Israel; a several years prior to destruction)

CLV 9 Yet we are persuaded of better things concerning you, beloved, and those which have to do with salvation, even if we are speaking thus." 10 For God is not unjust, to be forgetting your work and the love which you display for His name when you serve the saints, and are serving." 11 Now we are yearning for each one of you to be displaying the same diligence toward the assurance of the expectation until the consummation, 12 that you may not be becoming dull. Now be imitators of those who through faith and patience are enjoying the allotment of the promises. 13 For God, promising Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, swears by Himself, 14 saying, "If, in sooth, it is blessing, I shall be blessing you, and multiplying, I shall be multiplying you!"

Hebrews 12:1-11(To the Hebrews whose faith was being finished for the AD 70 new covenant consummation; old covenant dissolution)

LITV 1 So therefore we also, having so great cloud of witnesses lying around us, having laid aside every weight and the easily surrounding sin, through patience let us also run the race set before us, 2 looking to the Author and Finisher of our faith, Jesus, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, "and sat down at the right" of the throne of God. Psa. 110:1 3 For consider Him who had endured such gainsaying of sinners against Himself, that you do not grow weary, fainting in your souls. 4 You did not yet resist unto blood, wrestling against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which He speaks with you, as with sons, "My sons, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint while being corrected by Him. 6 For whom the Lord loves, He disciplines, and whips every son whom He receives." Prov. 3:11, 12 7 If you endure discipline, God is dealing with you as with sons; for who is the son whom a father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become sharers, then you are bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore, indeed we have had fathers of our flesh as correctors, and we respected them . Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits, and we shall live? 10 For they truly disciplined us for a few days according to the thing seeming good to them; but He for our profit, in order for us to partake of His holiness. 11 And all discipline for the present indeed does not seem to be joyous, but grievous; but afterward it gives back peaceable fruit of righteousness to the ones having been exercised by it.

The first century supernatural spirit ruler of the kingdom promoted distrust in the true God.

Ephesians 2:2
ECB 2 wherein you formerly walked according to the eon of this cosmos, according to the arch of the authority of the air, the spirit that now energizes in the sons of distrust:

God disciplined His Hebrew sons of belief according to Hebrews 12:12, yet only His wrath is mentioned for the sons of unbelief, according to Colossians 3:6. Jerusalem officially opposed God by endorsing only the old covenant sons who rejected the true Son. They sided with their father; the adversary. The true Son is the noncorruptible son in the unmitigated image of God. He is the new head of humanity today. He is more than just our restoration to the typical tree of life. The new covenant with Him can never fall. He made possible all our good and conquered our death on the tree we fashioned into a cross.

The old covenant sons were about to experience one or the other: the covenant blessings of Christ or the curse of the everlasting destruction

Hebrews 6 (to Hebrew tribes outside of Israel)

CLV 1 Wherefore, leaving the word dealing with the rudiments of Christ, we should be brought on to maturity, (not again disrupting the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith on God, 2 of the teaching of baptizings, besides the imposition of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and of judgment eonian)." 3 And this will we be doing, that is, if God may be permitting." 4 For it is impossible for those once enlightened, besides tasting the celestial gratuity and becoming partakers of holy spirit, 5 and tasting the ideal declaration of God, besides the powerful deeds of the impending eon, 6 and falling aside, to be renewing them again to repentance while crucifying for themselves the Son of God again and holding Him up to infamy." 7 For land which is drinking the shower coming often on it, and bringing forth herbage fit for those because of whom it is being farmed also, is partaking of blessing from God;" 8 yet, bringing forth thorns and star thistles, it is disqualified and near a curse, whose consummation is burning." 9 Yet we are persuaded of better things concerning you, beloved, and those which have to do with salvation, even if we are speaking thus."

It was impossible for the unbelieving sons who remained in the old cursed land to crucify the Son again in order to remove the curse again. They instead became disqualified and their old covenant was destroyed. The blessed by Christ Hebrews moved into a covenant land without national borders; the church. And they are still in it. I suppose all the elect Jews were completley saved, just as Peter and the author of Hebrews were confident they would be. The old man (adamic son headship under law) was put to death. The new man lives on. God's people are still judged today. We are still disciplined through suffering rather than perish with the unbelievers. Just because the transition judgement is over doesn't mean it has become a free for all. Yeshua is the head of the body now and He unlike Adam is the ultimate supernatural human being. Adam has been raised from the person he started off as. We have better family character now not worse. The new man even rules the elohim/angels. The old man let the elohim rule him.

Ephesians 5:6-10 (sons of unbelief)

LITV 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for through these the wrath of God comes on the sons of disobedience7 Then do not be partners with them; 8 for you then were darkness, but now light in the Lord; walk as children of light. 9 For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, 10 proving what is pleasing to the Lord.

Hebrews 13:12-15 (The city of Jerusalem was about to burn)

LITV 12 Indeed, because of this, in order that He might sanctify the people by His own blood, Jesus suffered outside the gate. 13 So let us go forth to Him outside the camp bearing His reproach. 14 For we do not have here a continuing city, but we seek the city coming. 15 Then through Him let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God always, that is, the fruit of the lips, confessing to His name.

Luke 17:32 (unbelieving sons who chose typical Jerusalem perished)

LITV 32 Remember Lot's wife.

Hebrews 12:7

LITV 7 If you endure discipline, God is dealing with you as with sons; for who is the son whom a father does not discipline?

Genuine belief comes with the new territory. Therefore there are no sons of unbelief who get spiritually destroyed in the new covenant era, but God sure can bring on the disciplinary measures. Even during the transition era the goal was to save the disobedient believer's spirit so that he himself won't perish but have everlasting life.

1 Corinthians 5:1-5

YLT 1 Whoredom is actually heard of among you, and such whoredom as is not even named among the nations—as that one hath the wife of the father! — 2 and ye are having been puffed up, and did not rather mourn, that he may be removed out of the midst of you who did this work, 3 for I indeed, as being absent as to the body, and present as to the spirit, have already judged, as being present, him who so wrought this thing: 4 in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—ye being gathered together, also my spirit—with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 to deliver up such a one to the Adversary for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
